Indoor pickleballs are lighter and softer than outdoor balls, with about 26 larger holes. They fly a little slower and bounce predictably on gym floors and sport court, which makes them easier to control on dinks and resets and quieter in shared spaces. Compare with our outdoor pickleballs.
You can, but it's not ideal. Indoor balls are light, so wind pushes them around, and their softer plastic wears quickly on rough concrete and asphalt. For outdoor courts, use an outdoor pickleball. If you play both, the Selkirk SLK Hybrid Indoor/Outdoor ball is designed for both surfaces.
Indoor balls generally last longer than outdoor balls because gym floors are smoother and the temperature is stable. How long depends on how often you play and how hard you hit. Replace a ball when it gets soft, goes out of round, bounces unevenly or cracks. Keeping a few spares in your bag means you're never stuck without a good ball.
